AI isn't coming for your job

It's coming for your tasks. If you run a team, here's the list, and the prompt for every one. Plus what's new on the rebuilt AI Playbook: playbooks, skills, RE+SHAPE and 72 free prompts.

The AI Playbook — Published weekly by Keith Eddleman, CTO

First, the site got rebuilt.

If you haven't been to TheAIPlaybook.com lately, it isn't a newsletter archive anymore. I rebuilt it this week into a working library, and everything on it is free.

The new TheAIPlaybook.com

Here's what's new.

Playbooks

Playbooks are new. They're the most useful thing on the site, and I'm going to keep publishing them.

The Save My Job Playbook is the first. Pick your job from twelve, from managers and sales to finance, engineering and HR, and get the tasks you can hand to AI today, each with a prompt you can copy into Claude or ChatGPT. 58 prompts in all. More on it below.

The Save My Job Playbook

Ten Plays You Should Run Immediately got rebuilt too. Each play now has its short video right beside it, the prompt ready to copy, and the steps to run it. One hour, start to finish:

  1. Tell Claude who you are.
  2. Stop typing.
  3. Make it interview you.
  4. Ask what it's missing.
  5. Show it. Don't describe it.
  6. Don't accept the first draft.
  7. Make it convene a board.
  8. Let AI do the post-meeting work.
  9. Learn to create skills.
  10. The Sunday night brain dump.

Ten Plays, rebuilt with the video beside each play

Between the two playbooks, that's 72 prompts you can use today.

Skills

A Skill is a file you install once, and from then on your AI follows it instead of improvising. I'm dropping them into the Skills Library as I build them. Two are up:

  • The Meeting Filter. Reads the meeting notes your AI can already reach and brings you only what needs you: the decisions, the blockers, the things you promised. "Nothing needs you" is a valid answer.
  • RE+SHAPE. Interviews you about one piece of your work, one question at a time, and ends with a written plan for what to do with it.

RE+SHAPE

RE+SHAPE is the framework I use to decide whether AI should touch a piece of work at all, and if so, how. The page now explains it in plain English, with a worked example, alongside all thirty plays. If you'd rather just try it, the guided session takes about fifteen minutes on your own work.

Every past issue is still there too, in one archive.

All of this has one job: help leaders like you keep your job, get better at it, and finally get a return on the AI money your company is already spending.

Take a look around → Take whatever is useful.

Now, about that job.

AI isn't coming for your job.

It's coming for your tasks.

That's not a threat. It's a to-do list. And if you run a team, I can show you exactly what's on it.

If you're still doing any of these, stop. Let AI do it. Or lose your damn job.

Hand these off today:

  1. Reading everyone's status updates to find the two that need you
  2. Writing the weekly report for your boss
  3. Taking meeting notes and chasing the action items
  4. Turning a messy brain dump into a plan
  5. Checking dashboards to see if anything broke

Coming soon:

6. Noticing a project has gone quiet for nine days
7. Getting prepped before every one-on-one

None of these is the job. They're the stuff around the job. The job is deciding, coaching, and showing up for your people.

Start with #1

Open Claude. Paste this. Replace the brackets.

I manage a team of [number]. Below are this week's status updates.

Read them and tell me only:
1. Anything that needs a decision from me, and by when
2. Anything blocked that I can unblock
3. Anything slipping that nobody has flagged

If nothing needs me, say "Nothing needs you today." Do not summarize the rest.

[paste updates]

Run it every morning for a week.

Count the days it says "nothing needs you."

That's the time you just got back.

The rest of the list

Every prompt for the other four is in the playbook, ready to copy. So are the lists for eleven other jobs, from sales and finance to engineering and HR, in case someone on your team needs theirs.

Get the Manager's list →

If an AI notetaker already records your meetings, skip the pasting. The Meeting Filter is a free Skill that reads them and only brings you what needs you.

One question

Hit reply and tell me: which task on that list eats the most of your week?

I read every reply. The answers decide what I build next.

— Keith

P.S. I wanted task #1 on my phone, not in a browser tab. So I built TextAgent. I text it "what needs me today" and it answers from my inbox and calendar. I'm biased, obviously. Free for 14 days: text 737-377-1927.
